This week The Historical Cooking Project is proud to announce the launch of The Feminist Restaurant Project. The Feminist Restaurant Project is part of our editor, Alex's Ketchum's doctoral research on feminist restaurants, cafes, and coffeehouses in the United States and Canada from 1971 to present day. While the website is still in beta and will continue to develop over the next few years, this initial launch is quite exciting as this is the first website ever created that is dedicated to chronicling the history of feminist restaurants, cafes, and coffeehouses.
One of the greatest contributions made by the site is the directory list. Users can scroll down the page to see the locations of these feminist spaces. Eventually the site will display interactive maps that will allow users to see changes in the locations and numbers of feminist restaurants, cafes, and coffeehouses in North America. Visitors to the site are encouraged to contact Alex Ketchum if they have any information about feminist restaurants, cafes, and coffeehouses.
